Hey guys! Welcome back to the blog! I hope that you're having a calm day. I seriously can't believe it's almost the end of the year already?! These past few months have seriously flown by too fast!! While the holidays are such a joyous time, winter can also bring about lower vibrations and feeling more down. Less sunlight and staying in more sometimes makes me feel a little down, which is normal. Emotions fluctuate, and that's part of being human. But it's hard to go through feelings of not feeling super happy and like our normal selves. For this week's post, I'm sharing a few of my go-to self-care practices to help care for ourselves if we're experiencing the winter blues. Read below for my suggestions:
1) Get Ready & Get Dressed Every Day
I can't even tell you how beneficial it has been for me to get ready and dressed every day! I'm sure we all know it takes a lot of effort to put forth our best selves in terms of our presentation, but it is incredibly beneficial for our mental health. When you take that extra morning time to put on an outfit that makes you feel like your most confident self, you automatically feel happier. A lot of the time, when our mood is down, we don't feel like getting ready. But the power of doing it uplifts our mood and makes us feel good in our skin. I mean, we could all use a little bit more of that. I feel good when I get ready for the day and look good. And when I feel good, I do good. So, tomorrow, I want you to wake up, do your makeup if that makes you feel good (listen to YOU), to put on an outfit that YOU love, and walk out of that door feeling just a little bit happier :)
2) Get in Some Low-Impact Movement
Recently, I've been getting into the practice of doing mindful movements every day. For me, movement is more about my mental health! I like to get in movement because it makes me feel calmer and at peace mentally. I've been really loving Melissa Wood Heath, an online platform of workouts for about 20-25 minutes, and all you need is your yoga mat! Taking that time to do a full-body yoga or pilates series allows me to have some moments of mindfulness for myself. Low-impact movement helps you feel happier, too. Whenever I get in some movement, I feel like I have more energy and good vibes within me. Mindful movement is especially helpful for me during the winter months because it really helps me be more present. It's so important to find enjoyable and impactful movement for YOU, and low-impact movement is great!
3) Take an Everything Shower
Sometimes, all we need is an everything shower. In the shower, we take that time for ourselves, double shampoo, scrub, double condition, and just de-compress and re-fresh :) But I'm telling you guys that taking a shower is really good for improving mental health. Sometimes, all we need is just a little pampering! There's also just something that feels so relaxing about taking a shower and letting the warm water help soothe you. When I'm feeling down or stressed, I absolutely love just taking a shower to help calm my mind and let go of any worries. And let's not forget that taking an entire shower is self-care, so don't feel guilty for taking a long time. Please take that time for YOU! Maybe even listen to your favorite soothing music playlist to uplift your mood and wash away any low vibes and energy.
4) Make Yourself a Warm Drink & Watch a Comfort Show
Okay, this is probably one of my favorite ways to uplift my mood when I'm feeling a little down. Having a warm drink has always brought me comfort and helps me feel cozy and comforted during this time of year! Lately, I've been loving making myself some warm chai in the afternoons (love the black chai by Harney and Sons), and sitting down with a blanket for a while and just watching a feel good show. Really, having that downtime for ourselves can really boost our mood and help us feel happier when we need it most. I love watching a cute Christmas movie on Netflix or a little romantic comedy to boost my spirits and bring about some happy energy. If you need a feel-good show, I 100% recommend My Life With the Walter Brothers on Netflix! It's such a cute show that brings you all the comforting and feel-good vibes!
These three self-care practices have been great for letting go of the winter blues and the times I feel a little down. The power of even just 10 minutes of showing up for yourself can work wonders for how you think! So, if you feel down now and then, try one of the self-care practices and let me know if they were helpful for you!
Thank you for reading this week's post, and I'll see you back on the blog next week!
