Hey guys! Welcome back to the blog! I hope you're doing well and enjoying your start to the new year! A new year feels like a fresh start for me, and sometimes we need that. A time to get back into our self-care practice ;) And to focus on ourselves a little bit more. As much as I love the holidays, I love the time to have a fresh start. I don't believe in resolutions. It's never really been my thing because they feel too rigid, and it's hard to stick to them. Instead, this new year, I decided to establish a few self-care musts for the new year to help focus more on how I FEEL this year. What I love about self-care is that you can lean into it when you want to feel better. When I started getting into self-care practices, I learned I could have many self-care tools and techniques right when needed. Just little things for me. And that's what I want to do more of this year. I've listed my latest favorite self-care practices for some feel-good vibes this winter to help you focus on feeling good!
1) Integrating more low-impact movement into my days
Okay, I haven't been the biggest working-out person. I'm just going to be completely honest with you guys. I never loved hitting the gym; going on the treadmill was boring. But, ever since I started doing low-impact yoga and pilates workouts, I have never felt better. The way that you feel after some low-impact movement is incredible! I feel more light and calm, and my body feels stretched out! It's so good for my mind that I want to integrate it daily, even if it's just 20-30 minutes of movement. Trust me, this movement is tough but feels so good, so you don't need much. I 100% recommend Melissa Wood Health, which has a full-body series, stretching, dancing, yoga, meditation, and more! It's INCREDIBLE!!!
2) Taking regular breaks
This has always been super important to me. But, especially during the colder months when there's less sun and life can feel like a lot, it's important to take breaks regularly. Whenever I come home from work, I like to have my "me" time, where I'll make myself a cup of tea and watch some YouTube or even work on writing a blog post! Having these calm moments for myself helps me feel more rejuvenated and refreshed and helps me feel calmer. Even during the day, I will take regular breaks from work because I need them mentally. You can take a few moments to stretch, get up from the desk, make a cup of tea, watch a few minutes of your favorite show, or even do a short meditation, etc. It's the act of pausing your work and letting your mind rest for a few moments, which is incredibly beneficial.
3) Doing my minimal skincare & makeup routine
For me, doing my skincare and makeup routine has always been an act of self-care because it just helps me feel good in my skin and more put together! I've been enjoying designating time in the mornings to do my skincare and makeup. This year, I've been more into minimal skincare and makeup, that's clean beauty, because I think less is more. We use so many products on our skin and hair daily, which greatly impacts us. So, I've been trying to find more clean beauty skincare and makeup to care for my skin. It's amazing because you don't need to use many products when you use clean beauty. After all, they are so clean and effective! I've been enjoying a simple skincare routine in the morning of cleansing and hydrating my skin, and in the evening of cleansing and exfoliating every few days! And with makeup, I've been liking just a minimal look. I love using concealer, blush, and mascara! That's it!
4) Having my afternoon cup of tea
Yes, this has been one of my favorite self-care practices lately! I loved coming home in the afternoons and having a warm cup of tea! Nothing is more comforting; this is one of my winter self-care non-negotiables! We need more comfort and warmth in the winter, and having a warm cup of black tea while watching a comfort movie is truly what I need! Trust me, try making yourself a warm cup of tea in the afternoons and (or) evenings, and you will feel those cozy vibes! I'm a tea lover, and a few of my favorite tea brands are Harney and Sons and Tetley!
5) Getting ready & dressing for success each day
I automatically feel lazy during the winter and want to be more cozy. But I feel so much more energized and happy when I put on an outfit that looks put together and helps me feel more confident! Wearing sweats doesn't help me feel good about myself, as much as I love being cozy. But I feel even better when I try to throw on a sweater and jeans! Oh, and when I put on my jewelry, there we go; I'm feeling even better! But getting dressed doesn't mean you need to throw on expensive stuff! It's just putting on an outfit that doesn't make you feel lazy but rather happy and good about yourself! Honestly, just putting on a pair of jeans, a fun little sweater, your favorite jewelry, and a cute pair of sneakers, boots, or sneakers is my go-to comfy yet chick outfit! And if doing some makeup helps you feel good, do it! Trust me, putting in that effort will result in feeling so good and confident about yourself!
And remember the SCBE mindset: "Choose Happy. Show up for YOU." ❤️

Esha
