Welcome back to the blog :) How have you all been? I can't believe that it's already June!! I don't know about you, but I love this time of the year! Sunny days, more relaxing, watching good shows, hanging out with friends and family, and reading some feel-good books!! For this week's post, I wanted to share some of my top self-care practices for summer. I feel that summer is a season of warmth, joy, and abundant opportunities for self-care. It's the perfect time to prioritize your happiness and well-being and indulge in self-care practices that rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Whether you're planning a vacation or enjoying a staycation, here are some of my go-to self-care ideas to incorporate into your summer routine for a blissful season :)
1) Soak up the Sun
This summer, spend as much time as possible outdoors. Seriously. The sun brings me so much happiness and it honestly brings me so much serotonin. We are so blessed with the beauty of mother nature, so take advantage of the sun's nourishing rays! Sunlight stimulates the production of vitamin D in our bodies, and this promotes just a better mood. Go for a walk, sit outside and read a good book, enjoy time by the beach, and engage in your favorite outdoor activities this season!
2) Prioritize Rest & Relaxation
It's so crucial to unplug and give yourself a break for your mental and emotional health. Unplugging is such a powerful act of self-care that allows us to prioritize our well-being. It creates a space for self-reflection, self-compassion, and self-awareness. I feel that unplugging encourages me to engage in activities that bring us joy, whether it's reading a book, doing a hobby, taking a walk, or just finding some peace. Make time for yourself this summer to give yourself rest and time to just relax, and never feel guilty for it. You need it and deserve it.
3) Go With the Flow
I constantly remind myself that it's okay to not have plans and to have my days planned out hour by hour. In our fast-paced and often hectic lives, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the constant need to plan, control, and achieve. But, I feel that there is much value in learning to go with the flow and surrendering to the natural rhythms of life. Going with the flow is really about cultivating a mindset that allows us to navigate challenges with grace and ease. During the summer, I like to take it slow and give myself that permission to have the days when I am not super productive. Because that's sometimes all my mental health needs. So remind yourself that sometimes self-care can look like going with the flow and enjoying the day as it unfolds! And it's 100% okay if you don't accomplish a lot one day. You're human and be nice to yourself :)
4) Read a Good Book
Reading a good book in the summer is a form of self-care that bring me so much joy, relaxation, and rejuvenation. I feel that reading provides me a mental escape from the busyness of my life, and sometimes that is also what my mental health just needs. Reading in the summer invites us to slow down, be fully present, and embrace the joys of time to ourselves. It's a form of self-care that allows us to recharge our minds. So, sit outside, find a comfy spot in your home, and give yourself permission to read and enjoy a good book!
5) Make a Feel-Good Playlist
Good music is an automatic mood booster for me, and it has been for the longest time. Creating a feel-good summer playlist is a great self-care technique to bring about happiness and good energy. Listening to music I love helps me escape from daily stresses by boosting my serotonin. Whether you're going for a leisurely drive, or simply enjoying some downtime at home, a go-to feel-good summer playlist can provide the perfect soundtrack for moments of self-care and rejuvenation. I love some upbeat music for the summer because it has the ability to uplift my mood, boost my energy, and fill my heart with a sense of joy and well-being. Putting together a gold old playlist is a simple way to help bring ourselves more happiness and joy this season!
6) Wear Your Favorite Summer Outfit
One of my favorite parts of summer is wearing my favorite outfits that bring me happy vibes and good energy! The simple act of slipping into that breezy dress, those comfortable shorts, or that vibrant shirt can instantly lift your spirits and boost your confidence this season. I personally feel that putting on an outfit that makes you feel good can have a profound impact on your overall well-being, enhancing your mood and promoting self-acceptance. And that's a significant part of self-care! So, take the time to wear your favorite summer outfit, as a form of self-care that celebrates your authenticity and brings joy to your everyday life.
7) Find a Hobby You Enjoy
Engaging in a fresh activity during this season can bring a sense of excitement, exploration, and personal growth into our lives. Whether it's picking up a paintbrush, doing something creative, working out, diving into the world of gardening, or even exploring a new sport, finding a new hobby allows us to escape our daily routines and focus on something that brings us joy. I love hobbies because, for me, they serve as a therapeutic outlet, helping to reduce my stress, enhance my mental well-being, and improve my overall happiness. So, let this summer allow you to discover the wonders and benefits of finding a new hobby that brings you joy!
8) Pamper Yourself
I love the summer because it's one of the many times that I can honestly take my time with self-care and indulge in it. We all need the time for ourselves to really splurge and fill up our cups with the small acts of self-care that are good for the soul! I feel that pampering myself allows me to step away from the pressures of daily life and focus on my well-being, which can significantly reduce stress levels. Get your nails done, get a massage, do your favorite face mask, light a candle, whatever feels good for you!
These are a few of my go-to self-care techniques to take care of myself during the summer and to help myself feel happy and relaxed! Have a beautiful week, stay positive, and do more of what makes you happy, and I'll see you back on the blog soon for the next post :)
