Choosing Happiness: How to Show Up for Yourself Every Day

Hey guys! Welcome back to the blog! I hope you're doing well! I want to start this short and sweet post by sharing a little anecdote. Read below:

When I woke up this morning, I felt a little bit uneasy. I was feeling some anxiety, and I hadn't slept quite well. As I got up to brush my teeth and wash my face, I remembered that I had a choice. I could choose how I wanted to approach that day. I decided that I couldn't let the stress and anxiety pull me under. So, I chose a few self-care practices that intentionally let me find moments of happiness and integrated them into my morning routine. I decided to put on my favorite Christmas playlist (I love the holidays!) and listen to the music while doing my skincare routine. And guess what, I automatically started to feel much better! More like me again. Then, I decided to do my makeup, so I could feel even more put together. So, I did my favorite makeup routine, got dressed in a feel-good outfit, and felt even better. I walked out that door feeling so much happier and energized because of the little moments I took for myself.

Now, the moral of this short story is that daily happiness lies in showing up for ourselves every day. It took me a while to start doing this each day for myself and my happiness. But now, every single day, I do little things for myself. That's what self-care is for me. It's taking time in my day to do things for myself that spark happiness and joy. Because I deserve it. And most of all, I need it.

Now, I think we can all agree that choosing happiness takes effort, though. It's hard at times. It's hard when we're feeling down to start showing up for ourselves. Some days will be easier than others. But reflecting on how you feel when you choose your happiness, then the difference is noticeable.

It can be the little things that help you feel more happy, like going for a walk, really enjoying your cup of coffee or tea, watching your favorite movie, doing some mindful movement, or meditation. Happiness is committing to ourselves and loving ourselves enough to choose ourselves. Being happy doesn't come from the perfect life. It comes from enjoying the life we have by doing little things for ourselves and taking moments for ourselves that contribute to feeling good :))

So tomorrow when that alarm goes off, make that choice to show up for YOU. I know that I will choose me because I deserve to be happy. And so do you!

Thank you guys so much for reading!

And remember the SCBE mindset: "Show up for YOU" today, and this week! ❤️
