Hi all! Welcome back to the blog! How have you been? And Happy Holidays! As somebody who's a beauty and skincare enthusiast, I wanted to talk about clean beauty for this week's post and share my story of dealing with cystic acne. To me, my skincare routine has become such a large part of my everyday self-care regime, and being able to come back to these clean products is what makes my skincare routine even more enriching and beneficial.
About two years ago, I started getting extremely bad cystic acne on my face. Struggling with this kind of acne was something that took a huge toll on my confidence and the way that I felt each day. My skin was constantly red, and inflamed, and didn't look healthy. Every single day, I would wake up frustrated looking at my skin and having it not clear. I was that person who tried every single beauty product to get rid of this acne, but nothing worked. I tried a variety of topical creams, like retinol, but as someone with already such sensitive skin, my skin was only getting more aggravated. Some days, I tried slathering on all the serums and moisturizers, other days I put nothing on my skin at all, and still, my acne resided.
At first, I thought that it was just hormonal, and that cystic acne is something that people can just get. But what I didn't realize was that my acne also had to do with a lot of the products that I was using on my skin, especially since I already have such sensitive skin. People with sensitive skin have a more easily aggravated skin barrier, which is the top layer of the facial skin that protects the inner skin layers. As someone already dealing with such sensitive and reactive skin, I hadn't realized that the products that I was using had all these ingredients and even some chemicals that were irritating my skin barrier. When I struggled with cystic acne, I can't even tell you how much research I did to look into the cause of cystic acne and how to get rid of it quickly. I did find this one article about clean beauty and how using clean products is more suitable for people who have reactive skin and they're solely composed to clean, non-toxic ingredients. So, there are no harsh chemicals, no parabens, artificial fragrances, or any bad stuff.
I came across the company, Honest Beauty, and can I tell you, their products were a true game changer for my skin. As I used these clean products, I seriously noticed my skin being less reactive, red, itchy and inflamed. I felt that it became healthier, and it most certainly looked healthier. I started my new skincare routine with very few products including a cleaner, and a moisturizer. With clean beauty, I definitely feel that less is more because the products are already so effective and actually do what they promise. The products from the Honest Company that I used and still to this day use are not only a better choice for your well-being, but I feel that they're really gentle and mindfully created for people who do have really sensitive and reactive skin.
Currently, I use the Calm on Foaming Cream Cleanser and the Hydrogel Cream, and can I tell you, this skincare duo provides my skin with a super gentle yet effective clean, combined with luxe hydration without feeling oily. If you're someone who is struggling with acne or super sensitive skin, I definitely would recommend clean beauty products, specifically by the Honest Company. Like the Honest Co. says, "you shouldn't have to choose between what's good for you and what works." Sensitive skin can sometimes be so annoying, but finding products that were designed for your skin type just enriches my skincare routine even more and makes it so much more enjoyable!
Take good care of yourself!

Esha
