Hi! Welcome back to the blog. For this week's post, I wanted to dive deeper into self-care and how it indeed improves my life on a daily. I started this blog almost a year ago to encourage you to prioritize self-care because I realized that self-care is what helped me with the two h's, my health, and my happiness during a time when I was struggling with my mental health.
I think that when I look at self-care, it comes in so many different shapes and sizes. For everybody, self-care and how we take care of ourselves look so different. But I think that we can all attest to the fact that any type of self-care makes us feel a little bit better. It just brings more light into ourselves and our lives. And that's why I always go back to my self-care practices. They help me get through the tough times, the challenges, and even the good times. In all instances, self-care helps me due to the fact that one, it makes me a happier and more fulfilled person, and two, it allows me to care for myself enough in order to show up for my other priorities in life. For example, being able to have that energy and motivation to do my schoolwork derives from my caring for myself. If I didn't put that time and care into myself, I would feel a huge lack of motivation. A year back when I suffered from chronic anxiety, I had this consistent lack of motivation and mental fatigue because I wasn't caring for my mind in the way that I needed to. I was in need of nourishing myself and giving myself more love and kindness to feel mentally healthier.
Self-care to me is truly all about giving yourself the care and love you need in order to move about life in an enjoyable way. Yes, I can still do my daily priorities without putting as much emphasis on self-care, but I won't be enjoying them. To me, life feels a little more stagnant and dull when I haven't invested that time in myself. Self-care gives me the fuel and good vibrational energy to live each day with more excitement and enthusiasm. Having a good balance of the different kinds of self-care allows me to feel my best. Personally, I find significance in mental, emotional, and physical self-care.
Some of the self-care practices that I go back to for my health and happiness are the small things. For example, it's getting in some movement or a workout, going outside, listening to some upbeat and uplifting music, socializing, pampering myself, practicing my hobbies, doing my skincare, taking breaks when I need them, and listening to my body. These are just a few self-care practices that give me the daily love I need to be well decently.
When I do the little things for myself, I honestly feel that my life feels more put together, and I'm in a calmer state in general. Prioritizing my self-care daily also helps keep my mental health in check, and to me, my mental health and well-being are very important. So, I encourage you to find a few self-care practices that bring you joy daily and allow you to feel cared for. Remember that when we invest more in ourselves and the way we feel, the more we are able to give back and the better we're able to show up. And keep coming back to these little practices for yourself. My go-to saying is that "self-care makes life better", and in reality, it does!
Take good care of yourself this week. I encourage you to find a little joy in each day of the summer and to really be present in experiencing it. It can be as little as having a cup of ice cream and really taking the time to enjoy it and be in the moment! ☻
