We've all been there and have had days where we just don't want to get up and start our day. I know that sometimes I don't feel motivated to get anything done, and I want to be lazy. In all trueness, that's life. We're not just going to wake up every single day and feel motivated, be in a good mood and get stuff done. Some days are just going to be better than others.
When I'm in this cycle of low energy, low vibes, one of my most favored ways to just boost my mood is to practice self-care and fill myself up with the care that I need to feel better. So for this post, I'm sharing some of my favorite ways to boost my mood and be in a better place mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Listen to motivating music
Music really has the power to energize me and fill me with positive, good vibes! And sometimes I'll just dance and move my body to some music as well to feel better!
Stretch
Any type of movement just overall boosts my mood, but lately, I've been really loving stretching. Stretching is so good for the mind and body because it releases serotonin (which is the happy hormone)! Just taking 5 minutes to get in some stretching has the biggest impact on my mental and physical health and increases the circulation in my body. Stretching is also really good for stress if that's what is primarily lowering your mood, as it releases so much of the muscle tension in the body.
Take a hot shower
It's so incredible how relaxing a hot shower is for the body and also the mind. It's just calming and relaxing! I feel like I'm washing away all the bad vibes, and that really improves my mood.
Hydrate
Did you know that dehydration can throw off the serotonin balance in the brain? Drinking a lot of water really helps me feel more energized, and calmer as well. Every morning, I go for an 8oz glass of water and take my probiotic because water really stimulates the flow of hormones throughout the body.
Cook/Bake
Cooking and baking have always brought me joy and really do boost my mood. For times when I'm feeling a little down, I love to either prepare a cooked meal or just bake anything, and to make the relaxing experience even better, I really enjoy putting on some background jazz to make myself feel better.
Organizing
I’ve been an organized person my whole life. It makes me feel better when everything is in place, clean, and tidy. So whenever I have a low mood that needs some boosting, I love to organize anything. My desk, a closet, my bathroom, the kitchen, just about anything. I'm the person who loves seeing everything neat and well kept. It really makes me happy when things look organized and put in place!
Meditation/Deep Breathing
Meditation and breathing practices helped me tremendously when I was suffering from anxiety. It calmed me and allowed me to develop that greater sense of inner peace with myself again that was stripped from me throughout my mental health journey. But, I also find that meditative practices boost my mood and make me happier! I recommend doing some deep breathing exercises, for ex. just deep breathing in and out, and it will make the world of a difference!
That's all for this post, but these self-care practices really help me boost my mood when it needs a little boosting!
Take care of yourself,
Esha
