My Feel-Good Summer Reads for the Ultimate Rom-Com Lover

Welcome back to the blog! Happy July!! One of my favorite parts of summer is diving into new books. There's something so great about cozying up with a good book and a cup of tea, getting lost in a new story, or finding yourself relating to characters. So, for this blog post, I wanted to share a 4 of my feel-good reads that I've read this summer that will leave you feeling all of that good energy, will leave you with life lessons, positive outlooks, and just all the feels. These books are filled with memories and experiences of characters, friendships, relationships, small-town things, summer settings, and more! Read below for my reviews on some of Emily Henry and Carley Fortune's writing, and I hope you enjoy these books if you decide to read one or all! Happy summer reading!!! 📚☀️

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

If you're a rom-com lover like me (perhaps a The Proposal or Two Weeks Notice fan), you'll love Book Lovers. The book centers around Nora, a literary agent, and Charlie, an editor, who lives in NYC. They're both ambitious and competitive; ultimately, they are rivals initially. They both spend their summer in a small town, Sunshine Falls, in North Carolina, and Nora truly feels like she's living that small-town rom-com life. All things books and coffee shops, small town gatherings, friendships, and relationships, but little does she know that Charlie is there, too. This is a book that explores the beauty in friendships and family relationships, specifically with Nora and her sister. It's a book that touches on vulnerability, which I found relatable, and navigating low moments in life. I loved how the writing focuses on a character and their personal life, allowing the reader to connect more with the characters in the book. This novel brought me all those feel-good vibes, especially with the small-town summer setting. And I loved the many messages embedded in this novel to leave you feeling optimistic and genuinely happy every time you pick up this book to read!

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune

For all my readers out there who genuinely love summer and rom-coms, this is the book for you. Every Summer After is a book about Percy, Sam, and Charlie (two brothers), who used to be neighbors in Barry's Bay, Canada. Spanning 6 summers of their lives, this novel shares the joyous past summer vacations of Percy, Sam, and Charlie, filled with happy memories, some sad ones, and some summer romance. Sam is now an ambitious doctor, and Percy is a fashion editor. Their friendship turned relationship of the past seems to arise again when Percy gets a call that Sam and Charlie's mom has passed away, the woman that Percy would find so much comfort and warmth with when she was a kid. This novel truly makes you feel all the feels but gives you a deep appreciation for the people who love you and reminds you to lean into that love when you need it the most. It's filled with re-patching old friendships and relationships, personal growth, and just that feel-good summer energy!

Happy Place by Emily Henry

Happy Place is that true summer setting novel that brings you into this beautiful world of the amazingness of summer. The friendships. The fun activities. The hanging out, and going out to dinner. Jumping in the lake. All the things. This book is about college friends who all spend their summer going to one of their friend's lake house in Maine. Two friends, engaged before, navigate re-kindling after breaking up their engagement but have to pretend they are still engaged for their friends' sake and enjoying their summer. I love how this book dives into the beauty of long-lasting friendships, navigating hardships in the past and present, and growing and changing. I love that Henry focuses and brings so much depth to the characters, allowing you to learn about their past and resonate with them. It's a book that will leave you feeling like you're in your happy place, just serene, thinking about all the summer things. But you'll also be left with feel-good energy and good life messages! It's a book that will encourage you to think about what makes you happy and embed it into your everyday life.

Beach Read by Emily Henry

Exploring the dynamic between two contrasting authors, this novel presents an enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy that evokes a range of emotions. The protagonists, January Andrews, known for romantic fiction, and Augustus Everett, a literary writer, are both alumni of a Michigan college where the story unfolds in a small town. Encountering each other, they agree to swap genres to overcome their writing block. The narrative is enriched with charming small-town elements, as the characters embark on trips to gain insight into each other's writing styles. The profound storytelling allows readers to empathize with the characters and their journeys, delving into themes of family dynamics, friendships, and love. The novel beautifully encapsulates valuable life lessons and heartwarming messages, leaving readers with a sense of positivity. This novel is truly the perfect beach read for this summer!

I hope you enjoy these novels!! Take some time just to unwind a read this summer. It's seriously so good for the mind. Happy summer reading!
