I think we've all heard someone in our lives tell us to be positive whether you're feeling super stressed and anxious so you start adapting a pessimistic and negative attitude, or you're thinking the worst of the future and thinking about all the bad things that could happen.
When I was struggling with anxiety, I was constantly told "to be positive", "to think positive", "to have a positive attitude". But back then, when anxious thoughts were flooding my mind and body, those words to me were way easier said than done. I didn't make an effort to try to be positive, because I was letting my anxiety get the best of me. I was letting those anxious feelings take over my mind, and therefore my body. And that only made it worse.
There is a power in choosing positivity and being optimistic. Positivity just makes life better. When your brain is taught to think positively by you making that decision, positive vibrations are going through the mind which is basically just high-frequency thinking patterns. And since the mind and body are connected, your body is going to feel calmer and at ease.
Positivity and choosing a positive mindset will help you better cope with stressful situations because that's what being positive just is. It's thinking the best of things and focusing on the good in any situation. Positivity is also quite motivating. It just keeps you going and helps you encounter tough situations in a calmer way. Positivity boosts your confidence and self-esteem which automatically is so much better if you're one struggling with excessive stress and anxiety. Anxiety is something that lowered my confidence and I just didn't believe in myself as much. But positive thinking will just boost up that confidence and help you believe in what you can do!
I know that we can all find ourselves being negative here and there, and falling into negative mindset traps because that's just being human. Staying positive doesn't mean that you have to be happy all day every day. It really is knowing that on bad days, there are better ones to come. Positive thinking is not going to allow you to just avoid the negatives in life, but it's rather not letting them control your life. So every time you find yourself being negative, just pause, take a deep breath, and tell yourself to switch that mindset and focus on the good! :)
Take care of yourself,
Esha
