Hi everyone! Welcome back to the blog. Happy October! For this week's post, I want to talk about the importance of using sustainable self-care products for our overall well-being and the health of our planet.
This topic became more interesting to me when I started learning about clean beauty products and how many of these products and companies have sustainable values that help us take care of our planet.
First, I want to bring something to your attention: Every time you get a new product, it comes in packaging, right? You probably then throw this packaging in the trash. That trash eventually ends up in a landfill. And all of that trash lands up in the ocean, potentially harming marine life and other creatures.
But think about this: What if you buy a product with biodegradable packaging? That packaging wouldn't collect with the rest of the trash dumped into the ocean. Instead, it would be broken down and degraded due to the ingredients of the packaging.
When you think about it, small choices like choosing products with biodegradable packaging and ingredients can have a big impact on our planet and how we live. Microplastics, harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, parabens, and phthalates, and non-biodegradable packaging are finding their way into our oceans, endangering marine ecosystems and contributing to pollution and the delicate balance of our planet.
The beauty industry, with its massive consumer reach, is a prime example of an arena where sustainability practices can have far-reaching consequences. I really became interested in this idea after working with companies that practice sustainable values and promote their products.
I believe that as consumers, we have a responsibility to pay it forward and protect our earth, our sacred home. Here are a few beauty companies that I love that practice sustainable values, including packaging and ingredients: Honest Beauty, Summer Fridays, and Kitsch. I love all of these brands because not only do they promote self-care for women, but they embody sustainable practices as brands. All of these brands have sustainable packaging for their products, which is incredible.
Here are a few specific examples of sustainable self-care products that I love:
Honest Beauty's Hydrogel Cream: This is a clean beauty product with minimal and safe ingredients for sensitive skin. It's also cruelty-free and vegan!
Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm: This clean beauty product is super effective and moisturizing. It's made with plant-based ingredients and comes in compostable packaging. It's also a great way to reduce your plastic waste.
Kitsch Silk Pillowcases: These pillowcases are made from an incredibly soft satin that is gentle on the skin when sleeping and helps take care of your hair.
I've learned to really appreciate companies that help us take care of our planet because taking care of our surroundings is taking care of ourselves. In other words, when we take care of our planet, we're also taking care of ourselves. The more we can help take care of the environment around us, the better we feel, and the cleaner air we can breathe.
Sustainable self-care is more than just using products with eco-friendly packaging. It's about making choices that are good for our planet and our health. When we choose sustainable self-care products, we are supporting ethical businesses, reducing our environmental impact, and taking care of our own skin and health. I encourage you to make more sustainable choices when it comes to your self-care routine. It's a small way that we can all help to protect our planet and our health!
